Today, Lucy Allan MP wrote to Telford & Wrekin Council to lodge an objection against Planning Application TWC/2020/0047 - Phase 11 of the Lawley development.
This phase of the development proposes building around 600 new homes on a site that is marked by mineshafts and has been under consideration for nearly 50 years. Many mineworkings are not accurately documented and clearly pose a significant risk to any development.
Lucy Allan MP said:
"Whilst I am supportive of new infrastructure and housing, especially given Telford's growth as a major town in the West Midlands, this particular application has given me cause for concern. The Coal Authority has admitted to having "fundamental concerns" over the site, given that there are 42 mine shaft entries on the site, which raises questions as to its safety. Furthermore, there appears to be failure by developers to properly consult residents or listen to their valid concerns."
Lucy's letter to the Council is attached and can be read in full below.
