Today in Parliament, Lucy attended the first meeting of the all-party parliamentary group on birth trauma. Founded by Theo Clarke MP, the group aims to give a voice in parliament to those mothers who faced complicated births and adverse impacts on their postpartum mental health.
Lucy is working with Theo Clarke MP on this issue through the new APPG to ensure that the NHS is providing the proper level of support to mothers at all stages of pregnancy and birth. The cases investigated by Donna Ockenden at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust were raised by Lucy and discussed by the attendees.
Other MPs in attendance included Rosie Duffield MP, Sally Ann-Hart MP, Luke Hall MP and Cherilyn Mackrory MP.
The Government invested an additional £127 million in maternity and neonatal services last year.
Lucy Allan MP said:
“I am grateful to Theo for setting up this cross-party group for MPs to push for better services for mothers who face difficult births and postpartum complications.
Postpartum support is often insufficient for mothers who faced trauma before, during and after the birth of their children.
I look forward to working with colleagues from all parties to deliver more support for mothers.”
