Lucy Allan MP has welcomed confirmation from the Health Minister today that Telford is being prioritised for a new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) to be situated on Stafford Park, Telford.
This new CDC is opening in June 2023 and will provide services including MRI scans, CT scans, ultrasound scans, cardiology, X-rays, blood tests and respiratory checks. This will significantly accelerate diagnoses and reduce waiting times for patients in Telford. Once fully operational later this year, Telford’s new CDC will deliver an extra 53,772 tests, checks and scans every year.
The Government has committed £2.3 billion to establishing a network of Diagnostic Centres across the UK to tackle the Covid backlog. An early diagnosis is crucial to better healthcare and being one of the first towns to have a Diagnostic Centre is a significant step towards providing better healthcare for people in Telford.
Lucy Allan MP said:
I am delighted that Telford is being prioritised for this much needed Diagnostic Centre. Alongside the new Surgical Treatment Centre at the Princess Royal, where work is already underway, and the specialist Cancer Treatment Centre this will dramatically improve access to healthcare for my constituents and tackle the backlog.
Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust has confirmed that most 24/7 A&E services will continue to be delivered at the Princess Royal and that local residents will continue to use Princess Royal for their urgent and emergency care needs as they currently do. In addition, the County will have for the first time, a state of the art critical care centre at RSH which will take some pressure off Princess Royal, freeing it up to meet the needs of local people. I am feeling more confident that my constituents will soon be getting better access the healthcare they so desperately need.
We do, however, urgently need more GPs for our growing population and that is where I am focusing my attention.
