Lucy Allan MP has today welcomed the announcement from the Department of Transport that from 1 January 2023 to 31 March 2023 single bus tickets will be capped at £2.
The government has committed to a bold vision for bus services across England, backed by £3bn of investment – the largest government investment provided for busses in a generation. In response to the pressures mounted by the rising cost of living, the government is committed to providing affordable transport for all and will continue to provide investment to help people across England to save on travel.
The fare cap is supported by an investment of £60m across 130 operators nationwide. Between 1 January 2023 and 31 March 2023 a single bus ticket on most services will cost no more than £2.
Arriva have already confirmed they will be participating in this scheme. Therefore, all adult single journeys in Telford will be capped at £2. This will help save people an average of 30% on bus journeys in the borough, helping those across Telford with travel costs for work and essential journeys. Some people are expected to save more than £3 per single bus tickets.

I’m delighted that Arriva are participating in the government’s new £2 bus fare cap scheme. I know that many people in our town are feeling the pressure of rising costs, and I hope that this measure will help people to save money travelling to work, education, the shops, and appointments.
Many people are dependent on buses in Telford and we must have a reliable value for money service. I will ensure the Government continues to work closely with bus operators and the Council to provide affordable and reliable travel for everyone in Telford.
