Lucy Allan MP has welcomed confirmation from the Secretary of State for Health, Sajid Javid MP, that a new Community Diagnostic Centre will be opened in Telford this summer.
The new facility will be based at Hollinswood House in Stafford Park and offer a variety of patient services including CT and ultrasound scans, X-Rays, ECGS and blood testing. These crucial diagnostics will help to ease the pressure on the emergency services in the NHS and tackle the backlog in elective surgery.
A reduction in hospital visits will help to reduce the number of journeys patients are required to take to hospital and help to efficiently manage long-term health conditions.
Telford is within the top 10% of the most deprived areas in England and Wales and has high health inequalities. Lucy secured a debate in Parliament to put Telford’s health inequalities on the record and is pleased that the Department for Health has recognised the need for a new diagnostic centre in the town.
Lucy Allan MP said:
This new community diagnostic centre is a key part of the Government’s plan to tackle the backlog in the NHS. Too many of my constituents have faced unacceptable waiting times and poor service at the Princess Royal due to the increased pressures caused by the pandemic.I am pleased that the Secretary of State has seen that there is a real need for a new diagnostic centre in Telford and to receive formal confirmation that it will be opening this summer.
Health Secretary Sajid Javid said:
Tackling waiting lists will require new and more innovative ways of delivering the services people need. That is why we’re making it easier and more convenient to get checked. Our new Community Diagnostic Centres will bring those crucial tests closer to home including in the communities that need them most. They will help enable earlier diagnosis, allowing us to catch cancer and other issues as quickly as possible, and save more lives.
