This morning, Lucy welcomed Environment Minister Rebecca Pow MP to Ironbridge to inspect flood defences and take the opportunity to discuss the ongoing issues around waste management at the former Pink Skips site in Ketley.
The Minister used the visit to announce further Government investment in flood defences along the course of the River Severn, which will in turn strengthen the resilience of the Ironbridge Gorge against future storm surges.
Some £4.5 million will be invested across the Severn Valley in flood defences, natural flood management, floodplain reclamation and woodland planting. These measures are particularly designed to mitigate the flow of the River Severn upstream of Shrewsbury, improving resilience through the river’s course.

It is very welcome that the Government continues to focus on flood defences across Shropshire and in Ironbridge in particular. Many constituents have faced repeated flooding in recent years and it is very encouraging that their concerns are being listened to in Westminster.”
