1 year ago today, the UK entered national lockdown for the first time as coronavirus spread rapidly around the world. Today is a time to reflect.
In the year since, many have lost loved ones and lives have been changed forever. The losses people have suffered, combined with the loneliness and isolation caused by lockdown, have been so bleak for many, but communities everywhere have been tested and as in Telford have come together for the common good.
We have seen the the sacrifices of so many in Telford and across the country, and the extraordinary contribution of health and care workers and our local Council staff having helped us fight the pandemic at every step. Residents in Telford have done a fantastic job of doing their best to keep their community safe, whilst facing huge pressures on their livelihoods and family lives.
Many of our lives have changed and will not be the same again. We have all had to adapt to new ways of keeping in touch with our family, working and living. We have learned to cherish what matters most. The pandemic has taught us that our families and friends, our neighbours and communities and our health and well-being have never been more important.
One year on we can see a way out. We can look forward to the future with hope that the vaccine roll out has given us. It may not be a quick or smooth path ahead, but we also know that we can cope with what comes our way. Its time to look forward.
