Vaccinations in Telford using the Pfizer vaccine and now the newly approved Oxford vaccine are already underway.
Vaccines will be offered in a range of settings. Some vaccination teams will visit people to offer the vaccine, for example in care homes, whilst other people may have to go to the nearest centre.
Because some of the vaccine has to be stored in a very low temperature freezer, you may not be able to get the vaccine in your normal GP surgery. It is important that residents wait to be called to ensure the smoot rollout of vaccinations.
Telford MP, Lucy Allan, said:
"The approval of the Oxford coronavirus vaccine will be a game changer for Telford residents, allowing rapid growth in the numbers of people able to be vaccinated.
I had a really positive meeting with the local team in charge of rolling out vaccines in our area. We have the venues right across Telford whilst vaccines are getting out to care homes and the elderly right now. The Local Vaccine team’s ambition is to get the over 65s and clinically vulnerable vaccinated by March.
I am very grateful to those offering their premises for mass vaccination - starting in a few weeks' time. It is thanks to local businesses and venues that the Government has been able to plan and roll out ambitious vaccination schedules.
You will be called when it is your turn if you have an NHS number and you are registered with a GP. You can also be part of history and volunteer to be a Covid marshal or administrator.
The Oxford vaccine news is very exciting and I know it will be a real morale booster for so many after a very different Christmas and new national lockdown."
