It has been brought to Lucy Allan MP's attention that Telford & Wrekin Council intend to imminently reopen the road closures in Ironbridge.
Lucy has been contacted by local business owners who are concerned about the impact of measures on their livelihoods. To weather the impact of the pandemic, many businesses have invested heavily in outdoor furniture and pavement licenses to ensure they could continue to operate under COVID-secure social distancing guidelines.
Lucy understands that without any notice from Telford & Wrekin Council, the road’s reopening will now prevent these businesses from reopening and adhering to social distancing, and in some cases this may be existential for their future. Lucy has been informed that most traders found out through the traffic management company rather the Council themselves. No compensation was offered.
Lucy has today written to the Chief Executive of Telford & Wrekin Council to seek clarity as to why this decision was unilaterally imposed without consulting businesses.
