Many constituents have raised concerns about reports that the UK intends to lower food standards to secure post-Brexit trade deals. This is false.
The Secretary of State for International Trade, Liz Truss MP, and the Secretary of State for the Environment, George Eustice MP, have authored a joint letter to MPs setting out the UK's firm commitment to maintaining food standards and the ban on artificial growth hormones in domestic and imported products, and that only potable water can be used to decontaminate poultry.
The UK has some of the highest food standards in the world and has shown consistently it will protect these for consumers long into the future.
