The independent Ockenden Review into maternity care at Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust (SaTH) has today issued a statement reassuring families that progress is continuing on the review.
The number of families now involved in the review now stands at 1170, with 400 families being sent letters today to inform them that their care and treatment has been referred to the independent review team chaired by Donna Ockenden. These 400 families are not new cases and were included in previous publicly available figures issued by the review team.
The review, commissioned by the former Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt MP, will publish a final report which it is hoped will lead to better outcomes for those in maternity care at SaTH.
Lucy Allan MP secured a debate in the House of Commons on this issue in January, which was contributed to by the former Health Secretary and Owen Paterson and Philip Dunne, neighbouring MPs for North Shropshire and Ludlow. The minister responding, Nadine Dorries MP, has said that the Government expects the review to conclude by the end of the year, at which point it will work closely with NHS England and NHS Improvement to consider the next steps.
All families who may have been affected by maternity practices at SaTH, or wish to contribute to the review, have until May to do so in order that the final report can be compiled.
