Today the Foreign Secretary, The Rt. Hon. Dominic Raab MP, announced a £75 million fund to support Britons stranded abroad.
Many countries around the world have enacted strict border controls in an effort to contain and delay the coronavirus, leaving hundreds of thousands of British citizens unable to return to the UK. Many Telford residents will have family members stuck abroad or may themselves find themselves without a way home.
Where commercial routes remain feasible, airlines including Virgin, EasyJet and Jet2 will be responsible for getting their passengers with pre-booked tickets home.
Where commercial routes do not exist, the Government will charter flights. The £75 million will be used to charter these special flights to priority countries to bring back UK residents.
Once special flights have been arranged the Government will promote them through the Government's travel advice and through the British Embassy or High Commission in the relevant country.
British travellers who want a seat on those flights will book and pay directly through a dedicated travel management company.
- To see if you or a family member are eligible for repatriation and to find out how to book, please see the 'Return to UK' section of the FCO Travel Advice page for the relevant country.
- If there are no special charter flights for the country you're in, follow the guidance in the 'Return to UK' section.
