The NHS has set up a Volunteer Responder scheme to assist during the coronavirus outbreak.
The NHS has asked for 250,000 healthy volunteers to support the 1.5 million people in England who are most at risk from the virus. Volunteers can help in several ways:
- Community Response - collecting shopping, medication or essential supplies and ensuring they are delivered to those most in need
- Patient Transport - helping patients who are medically fit for discharge to return home
- NHS Transport Volunteer - transporting vital equipment, supplies or medication between NHS sites
- Check-in and Chat volunteer - providing short term telephone support to individuals who are at risk of lonliness as a consequence of self-isolation
More than 170,000 people have signed up overnight. Any Telford resident who would like to support the NHS can read more and sign up here.
