Following this evening's statement from the Education Secretary which announced the closure of schools across the UK from 5pm on Friday, 20th March until further notice, Lucy Allan MP raised the particular case of children in care and the fringes of care. In particular there will be some children who do not have a social worker or EHC Plan.
The children of 'key workers' - those public sector workers who will be directly involved in combatting the effects of coronavirus - will still be required to attend school. This is to ensure that key workers will not have to remain at home to provide childcare during school hours.
The Education Secretary, the Rt. Hon. Gavin Williamson MP, responded to Lucy's question by confirming that the children of social workers would continue to attend school and that vulnerable children would be supported through schooling by the Government.
