Today in Parliament the Housing Secretary, the Rt. Hon. Robert Jenrick MP, made a statement on the Government's wider housing plans, building on the welcome measures contained in this week's budget.
Lucy Allan MP was called to ask a question, and asked the Housing Secretary to ensure that developers listen to local communities when building new housing. The experience in Telford shows the necessity of robust Government action to ensure that developers and homebuilders work in cohesion with existing residents. Infrastructure must match the increase in demand from new house without affecting public services and the transport network.
Telford's status as a new town is what makes it so prosperous, and Lucy has welcomed new homes and facilities as its MP. However, this must not become a detriment to the lives of residents near new developments, as has been seen in Lawley. Lucy will continue to campaign for a planning and housing policy that balances the rights of existing residents with the welcome prospect of managed and proportional development and has welcomed the Government's proactive steps to deliver this.
Housing Secretary, the Rt. Hon. Robert Jenrick said:
"There is great opportunity to build new housing. We need to ensure that that is done in a very sensitive way and that the infrastructure flows with the new housing."
