Yesterday in Parliament, Telford’s MP and member of the Education Select Committee, Lucy Allan met with the Careers & Enterprise Company to learn more about the progress they are making in supporting young people with their future careers by connecting schools and colleges with employers.
The Careers & Enterprise Company was established by the Government in 2015 to provide strategic coordination for schools and colleges, employers, funders and careers programme providers.
The Company works closely on the ground with all 38 Local Enterprise Partnerships in the UK, including the Marches, and includes more than 2,000 schools and colleges in its network.
The aim of the organisation is to ensure that young people are able to find employment or training through an apprenticeship if they choose not to pursue higher education and to reduce the number of NEETS (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) across the UK.
In Telford, all local secondary schools are supported by the Careers & Enterprise Company and have a dedicated careers coordinator that connects young people in Telford with local employers such as Capgemini.
Lucy Allan said:
“I was delighted to meet with the Careers & Enterprise Company to discuss the work they are doing in secondary schools in Telford.
“It is so important that young people get the information they need and receive guidance about their options for future employment.
“Connecting schools with employers is fundamental to our future workforce and ensures that young people have the opportunity to learn whilst they earn through schemes such as degree apprenticeships.
“I would urge all young people in Telford to meet with their school’s Enterprise Adviser to discuss their careers options which is vital for their future.”
