Telford MP, Lucy Allan yesterday brought forward a debate on the failed Telford and Co-operative Multi Academy Trust (TCMAT).
The debate which took in Westminster Hall, the Common’s second debating chamber, saw Lucy raise points around leadership, responsibility and local authorities continuing duty towards pupils at academies receiving a good education. In addition to this Lucy praised the Community Academy Trust which now runs the schools previously affected for the positive impact they have had on the schools.
In responding for the government the Minister of State for Schools, Nick Gibb MP, thanked Lucy for bringing the debate forward and joined in praising the Community Academy Trust which now runs the school previously under TCMAT. The Minister added that local authorities should take swift and decisive actions where they feel academy schools are failing in their area.
Commenting after the debate, Lucy said: “I am pleased I was able to bring this issue to the attention of the minister.
“This debate wasn’t just about TCMAT it was about the dynamic between academies and local authorities and the relationships that need to be formed to ensure that young people receive a good and rounded education that suitably prepares them for the world of work.”
“2,000 pupils in Telford were let down by TCMAT and the Council and I am pleased to see that CAT are making amends and turning things around.”
