Christmas is a time when families come together to mark the passing year. We embrace festive traditions together and enjoy each other’s support and company. Sadly, for so many, this will not be possible this Christmas.
People have been through so much this year. So many have faced incredible challenges, disruption to lives and livelihoods, financial hardship, isolation from loved ones and ill health. Others have experienced bereavement in the most awful circumstances.
This Christmas however, more than any other, we can give thanks for those who have played their part in our community, showing care and compassion to those struggling, going above and beyond to help those in need.
I am so grateful for the way people have spontaneously reached out to support others. These gestures – however small – are much needed and strengthen us and our community. Every act of kindness has brought us closer together.
I pay tribute too, to NHS workers giving their all, to the police, teachers, shop workers, faith leaders, council workers - all those working so hard to keep our community going in such difficult times.
Looking ahead, the rollout of the coronavirus vaccine, which is an extraordinary achievement, gives us all hope that the end is in sight.
At this time, I wish everyone in Telford peace and a reason to give thanks, as we look ahead with hope to the better times to come.
