Following a meeting with local health leaders, Lucy Allan MP has been informed that:
-
By 24th January vaccinations had been administered in 97% of care homes in Telford & Wrekin and across Shropshire.
-
Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire had vaccinated 82% of care home residents over the age of 65 by 24th January. This was the highest percentage of any area in the Midlands.
-
All over 80s across Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire will have been contacted with an invitation to be vaccinated before the end of Sunday, 31st January, sooner than expected.
-
All Primary Care Networks across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin have received vaccine stock and all have plans in place for the to vaccinate the remainder of the over 80s by the end of the week.
-
Telford International Centre opened on Monday as a vaccination hub and administering more than 2000 vaccines in the first 48 hours. The International Centre is scaling up its capacity and will be able to administer up to 3000 vaccines a day.
Lucy Allan MP said:
"This is a huge achievement by everyone involved. I know they have worked so hard to make this happen, and on behalf of all of us in Telford I would like thank everyone for their effort and commitment in getting up to this point."
"Local health leaders have confirmed to me that Telford & Wrekin's vaccination programme is exceeding its targets already. Our Primary Care Networks have been creating and scaling up capacity, since before Christmas. The suggestion by some that local health teams were dragging their feet was simply wrong and unhelpful to residents. They were working to achieve this fantastic outcome and we should all be proud of their achievement.
"Now that capacity has been created, and the programme has been demonstrated to work even beyond expectations, it will be easier for everyone to get a vaccine going forward as capacity is scaled up exponentially and supply to meet the target of top priority groups has been confirmed."
