Lucy Allan MP has welcomed the news that Telford is one of ten sites in the West Midlands to host a Festival in support of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
Each festival site will be free and host live performances, entertainment and special events, as well as giant screens for attendees to watch the games. Southwater, at the heart of the town, has been earmarked as the location of the Festival Site in Telford.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham between 28 July and 8 August.
Lucy Allan MP said:
I am pleased that Telford has been recognised as a key location for a Commonwealth Games Festival Site, enabling residents to follow the games and enjoy themselves whilst doing so.
The Festival Sites are an excellent idea that will bring communities together to cheer on our athletes and I look forward to watching the games this summer.
I am very grateful to the Minister for Sports, Nigel Huddleston, for his work promoting and developing the games. The Minister has been a great supporter of sport in Telford and across the West Midlands.
I would encourage all residents to visit the Southwater Festival Site this summer.
