Today in Parliament, the Queen will set out the Government's programme as we emerge from the pandemic. Central to the speech will be a focus on skills: training, retraining and providing opportunity for all.
The Government's focus on skills, which has already been demonstrated through the Kickstart scheme, the launch of T-Level qualifications and skills courses.
Today's Queen's speech will include the Government's new Lifetime Skills Guarantee and a post-16 and adult education training system that is fit for the future.
Lucy Allan MP has strongly supported skills training, ensuring that Government can provide the skills training that people need for well-paid jobs and opportunities to retrain throughout their lifetime.
Amongst the announcement's to be made today:
- a new student finance system to transform the current student loans system, which will give every adult access to a flexible loan for higher-level education and training at university or college, useable at any point in their lives
- employers will have a statutory role in planning publicly-funded training programmes with education providers, through a “Skills Accelerator” programme
- the Secretary of State for Education will be given more powers to intervene in colleges that fail to meet local needs, and to direct structural change where needed to ensure the provider improves.

The policies announced today are very important for my constituents in Telford - a town with many skilled jobs that needs to ensure it can train and attract the right talent to thrive.
Jobs of the future are already coming to Telford, with a comprehensive skills plan to enable people can move into new high-tech and manufacturing sectors.
For the last 5 years the legislative agenda has been dominated by Brexit and Covid, but now we can look ahead to the exciting provisions the Queen will announce today.
It is very exciting to at last be able to move on and implement the policies I have been elected on. In Telford, this means realising the vision for the station quarter, with its new skills hub and the support of Telford College. The town should embrace this new focus on skills training and level up jobs and opportunities for everyone."
