Today the Prime Minister announced to the House of Commons that the Government will be, from 4th July, be relaxing a wide range of lockdown restrictions, enabling individuals and businesses to begin to return to normal.
Centrally, the 2 metre social distancing will be reduced to 1 metre, which is a vital lifelife for many customer-facing businesses.
In a wide ranging statement the Prime Minister also announced a number of places that will be allowed to reopen from 4th July, including:
- Pubs, bars and restaurants
- Hotels, holiday apartments, campsites and caravan parks
- Theatres and music halls
- Places of worship
- Cinemas, museums and galleries
- Hairdressers
- Libraries, community centres and bingo halls
- Funfairs, theme parks, adventure parks, amusement arcades, skating rinks and model villages
- Zoos, aquariums, farms, safari parks and wildlife centres
Lucy Allan MP has been lobbying the Government to implement these changes as soon as it is safe to do so and has therefore warmly welcomed the Prime Minister's statement this afternoon.
As we begin to reopen the economy, it is important that we do not increase the risk of transmission, and “close proximity” venues such as nightclubs, soft-play areas, indoor gyms, swimming pools, water parks, bowling alleys and spas will need to remain closed for now.
The Government is continuing to work with these sectors to establish taskforces to help them to become COVID Secure and reopen as soon as possible.
