Lucy Allan MP has today welcomed the announcement of a new dedicated cancer centre at Princess Royal Hospital. The centre will allow cancer surgery to take place all year round utilising dedicated theatres and wards. This life saving ward will reduce waiting times for cancer treatments, ensuring high rates of recovery and fewer delays.
This announcement a key element of the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Hospitals Transformation Programme. These improvement plans will see most of the existing A&E services continuing to be delivered 24/7 at the Princess Royal Hospital under a new A&E local model. Same day emergency care will continue at the PRH. The most critical A&E patients will be taken to specialist regional centres.
The Princess Royal Hospital has received £20 million funding for new surgery facilities and work is underway. Telford will also see a diagnostic treatment centre opening soon. These welcome new developments mean that Telford patients can expect better care, better access, and better outcomes.

Some residents have faced long and worrying waits for cancer diagnosis and operations. This new facility will save lives by reducing waiting times and delays. The cancer centre will compliment the current plans for a new surgical treatment centre at PRH and the new diagnostic centre. People have experienced real suffering through long waits for all treatment. Clinicians have told me their improvement plan will tackle these problems.
