This afternoon, Lucy Allan MP visited Telford’s new Community Diagnostic Centre, a massive new Government investment in local healthcare. Telford was one of the first centres to get funding approval following extensive lobbying from Lucy.
The Government invested £2.3 billion to establish a network of Diagnostic Centres across the UK to tackle the Covid backlog, cut waiting lists and accelerate diagnoses. An early diagnosis is crucial to better healthcare and being one of the first towns in the country to have a Diagnostic Centre is a significant step towards providing better healthcare for people in Telford.
Lucy worked closely with Ministers to articulate the case for Telford to be made a priority location for a Diagnostic Centre, recognising the enormous struggle people experienced in accessing GPs and having no option but to attend the Princess Royal for the most minor issues.
Patients can now make an appointment direct with with the Diagnostic Centre and no longer have to go to the Princess Royal for these essential procedures.
The Diagnostic Centre, which is located in Stafford Park, provides a number of crucial services for residents including MRI and CT scans, ultrasounds, X-Rays and blood, cardiology and respiratory tests. It is envisioned that the Centre will be able to deliver some 54,000 tests, checks and scans every year, significantly reducing waiting times and pressure on the Princess Royal Hospital.

I was pleased to visit the new Community Diagnostic Centre, which has now opened its doors to patients. It was also a great pleasure to meet the staff at the Centre, who are dedicate to helping patients and delivering the highest and most efficient levels of healthcare anywhere in the country.
After many years of lobbying Ministers for this investment, it is great to see the Centre finally open to patients in Telford. Waiting lists will start to fall immediately and my constituents will be able to get the treatment they need far sooner.
