Today in Parliament, Lucy participated in an adjournment debate secured by the MP for North Shropshire, Helen Morgan, to raise the issues of waiting times for ambulances in Shropshire.
Just last year, an 87-year-old constituent of Lucy’s was left waiting for an ambulance on her wet driveway with a broken hip for nine hours in the rain after a fall. The issue of ambulance waiting times is something many constituents have raised with Lucy, and it is something Lucy continues to lobby Ministers in Parliament and the hospital trust about.
Lucy intervened in the debate to raise the combination of factors that cause Shropshire to have some of the longest ambulance response times in the country, including the transfer of patients to wards and the difficulty many residents have faced when trying to access their GPs, which leads to more people seeking or requiring hospital treatment as they are unable to secure a Doctor’s appointment in good time.
Lucy Allan MP said:
I congratulate the hon. Lady on bringing this incredibly important issue to the House. Such heart-breaking stories are common to all Shropshire MPs. Does she agree that a combination of factors—I am sure she will go on to discuss some of them—including the transfer of patients on to wards, as well as the inaccessibility of general practitioners, is putting additional pressure on A&E?
