Today in Parliament, Lucy questioned the Secretary of State for Health, Sajid Javid MP, at the Health and Social Care Committee.
Lucy raised the personal experience of patients in Telford who have been struggling to secure appointments with their GP.
Lucy specifically raised the challenges residents face when trying to use the Teldoc service. Reading out the case of a constituent who had recently suffered a heart attack but was unable to see his Doctor, Lucy challenged the Secretary of State to ensure that more residents can see their GP in good time.
Following on from this, Lucy asked if it was considered acceptable by the NHS for a hospital not to restart orthopaedic surgery post-pandemic. Many constituents have written to Lucy detailing their experience waiting years for operations such as hip replacements, which have been deemed “non-urgent” and therefore not being prioritised. Lucy has been clear that a situation where patients, often elderly, are forced to wait years for operations is unacceptable.
Other witnesses called to give evidence before the committee included Amanda Pritchard, Chief Executive of NHS England and Professor Stephen Powis, Nation Medical Director for NHS England.
