Today, Lucy Allan MP met with West Mercia Police to discuss the force’s response to the upcoming publication of the Independent Inquiry into CSE in Telford.
It was through Lucy’s lobbying in Parliament and campaigning with victims that an Independent Inquiry into Telford CSE cases (IITCSE) was launched. The report is being undertaken by Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP and is expected to be a comprehensive and challenging review into CSE cases that have occurred in Telford over many years. This QC-led inquiry is due to publish its findings shortly.

I am pleased to have had the opportunity to discuss the upcoming IITCSE report with senior officers from West Mercia Police.
My advice to both the police and the council is to recognise that there have been failings and that these failings are not just historic. Some shortcomings have occurred more recently and it is important to acknowledge this.
In recent years practice and procedure has improved and attitudes toward young women and girls who report crimes of this nature have changed and I am confident this will continue to improve.
Changing organisational culture is always difficult and but it is essential in order to better serve and protect victims of crime.
