Lucy Allan MP met the Minister for Flooding, Rebecca Pow MP to update the Minister on the local situation and to ensure continued support for businesses, residents and Ironbridge Museums.
Lucy gave the Minister a comprehensive breakdown of flooding issues faced by Ironbridge residents for decades and it was agreed that they would work closely together to proactively tackle the threat posed by the periodic rising of the River Severn.
The Minister assured Lucy that she was aware of Ironbridge's specific situation and the effect that flooding has on the residents, businesses and cultural sites in the town. Lucy's feedback has been submitted to the Flood Resilience Board, and the Minister envisages a greater role for local representatives and residents in future discussions on flooding and flood prevention.
This season's floods still pose a threat to the town and Lucy is working to ensure that Ironbridge's needs are at the forefront of any Government response. Lucy has asked Ms Pow to visit Ironbridge to see the amazing work being done by the emergency services and Environment Agency to protect the town.
