On Thursday, Lucy Allan MP met with the Nick Ralls, the CEO of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums and senior management to discuss the flood damage caused by Storm Dennis and their future plans for the Museums.
Unfortunately, the Museums were badly affected by Storm Dennis, with several sites flooded, including the Coalport China Museum and the Jackfield Tile Museum. The damage is likely to run to many thousands of pounds and may see closures for some months whilst the Museums are drained and repaired.
Lucy was encouraged to hear that the Museums have ambitious plans for expansion, with a focus on community events and partnership with business and engineering firms to continue to promote the long tradition of industrial heritage in Telford.
Lucy Allan MP said:
"The museums are run as a charity, and are a both key part of Telford's history and a World Heritage Site. The damage caused by flooding is shocking and I will be doing everything I can to raise the matter with Ministers and in Parliament. I am encouraged however by the Museums' plan for expansion and greater cultural impact in our community."
