Today in Parliament, Lucy secured a debate in the House of Commons to discuss the final report of the Independent Inquiry into Telford Child Sexual Exploitation (IITCSE).
The report of the Inquiry, chaired by Tom Crowther QC, was comprehensive and meticulously compiled with sensitivity for those affected by these horrific crimes. The report was clear in its criticism of the failings of the authorities to take victims seriously and safeguard vulnerable children.
Lucy had pushed for an Inquiry into these events since 2016 and today marked the conclusion of a long campaign to ensure that victims could be heard. Lucy is determined to see Telford & Wrekin Council and West Mercia Police implement all the recommendations in the report as soon as possible.
Lucy Allan MP said:
I am grateful to the Speaker for selecting my debate on this crucial issue, and for the encouraging words of the Safeguarding Minister who responded sensitively to the serious issues contained in the report. Those who served in positions of authority and downplayed the scale of CSE in Telford must learn from this report and implement its all recommendations working together with our partners and our community.
I will use my position as MP to hold the authorities to account and ensure that my constituents feel safe and secure in their community.
