Lucy Allan MP has welcomed news that the Government has today announced £21.4 million to be allocated to the Princess Royal Hospital and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital to fund 64 new beds to ease pressures over the challenging winter period ahead.
This is the latest in a series of significant capital investments into the Princess Royal, where construction of a new £24 million surgical ward and new operating theatres well underway, to tackle the surgical backlog.
This will complement the new dedicated cancer centre with dedicated theatres and wards and the new ambulance hub that opened in April and the new A&E entrance currently under construction.
This in in addition to the new Community Diagnostic Centre in Stafford Park which will offer a range of diagnostic services including X-Rays, CT scans and Electrocardiograms, accelerating diagnoses and treatment.

I am pleased that the Government continues to invest significant funding into Princess Royal Hospital to address the backlogs in NHS services and challenges in accessing care that my constituents have been experiencing for too long.
This has long been by top priority and it’s fantastic to finally see funding coming to PRH and work being done to improve hospital care.
It will take time to see the impact of these developments on my constituents who have been experiencing unacceptable delays to care. But at least we know Government is listening and willing to take action.This in addition to the clinicians’ hospital improvement plan, where plans are now being finalised. Under the clinicians’ plan, Telford will continue to have 24/7 A&E but with access to the service being vastly improved. Life threatening critical cases from across Shropshire and Wales will taken to a specialist critical centre, freeing up A&E at PRH to prioritise local residents and meet their needs.
