In addition to an earlier allocation of £4.9m to Telford & Wrekin Council as part of the coronavirus response, Lucy Allan MP has today welcomed the announcement of a further £3.4m of Government funding for Telford and Wrekin Council to be used to support the community and vulnerable people through the winter months, as we tackle the virus.
Lucy has lobbied the Government throughout for the maximum allocations for Telford and has welcomed this latest tranche, which will help Telford and Wrekin support those most in need.
The total funding distributed to local authorities across the country since the start of the pandemic now stands at £5.7 billion, while individuals and businesses have benefitted from over £200 billion of Government support through the Chancellor's Job Support Scheme.
Lucy Allan MP said:
“The latest funding allocation for Telford and Wrekin Council is of huge importance to my constituents. I am pleased that the Government has listened to MPs and continues to provide massive financial support, ensuring that local authorities can continue to provide vital services and expand their test-and-trace capabilities - a key route out of COVID restrictions.
It is encouraging that both the Local Government Secretary and the Treasury have been very receptive to MPs and listened carefully to local authorities to ensure that our councils receive generous levels of support. This ensures continued funding for Telford and Wrekin Council’s efforts to tackle the pandemic in our community and keep local services running, for the benefit of everyone in Telford.”
Local Government Secretary, Robert Jenrick MP, said:
“Since the start of the pandemic, we have backed local councils with the funding they need to support their communities, protect vital services and recover lost income.
This extra £1 billion funding will ensure that councils have the resources that they need over the winter and continue to play an essential role on the front line of our response to the virus while protecting the most vulnerable and supporting local businesses.”
