In advance of the planned protests in Telford on Saturday Lucy Allan MP said:
“I have been working closely with our local police to ensure they are prepared for both a protest march and a counter protest demonstration in Telford this weekend. I have also been in discussions with the Home Office and I have briefed the Minister for Safeguarding on the underlying issues creating community tensions.
The delays to the CSE inquiry, the initial refusal to hold an inquiry and the subsequent unwillingness of some officials to cooperate in the inquiry has created tensions within the community. It is important we continue to put victims front and centre and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. The protests and policing them must not detract from this important work and the underlying concerns.
I fully support the work the police are doing to enable peaceful protest to take place and to keep the community safe.”
