Lucy Allan MP has collated the comments received from constituents and residents who have been affected by fires at the former Pink Skips industrial waste site in Ketley twice this year and presented them to the Environment Minister at a meeting on 21st July. The meeting was held to discuss the options available to clear the site.
Many residents have raised their concerns about the lack of communication and poor environmental management of the site over many years, particularly in the period leading up to the fire in April and May 2021.
Lucy also raised the issue again with Minister Rebecca Pow on her visit to Telford this week. Today, Lucy has written to the Chief Executive of Telford & Wrekin Council to seek clarity over the Council's plans for the future of the site and to understand what assistance the Council would need to move forward with the clean up.
The Government stands ready to assist and advise Telford & Wrekin Council should such assistance be needed and DEFRA have assured Lucy that this issue is high on their risk register as an issue of serious concern.
