The Prime Minister has announced today that gyms will allow be allowed to reopen following the expiration of the current national lockdown.
The country will return to a 3-Tier system from December 2nd, a day earlier than previously envisioned. Each tier will have different restrictions and available financial support for businesses. Today it was confirmed that gyms will be allowed to reopen under all tiers.
Lucy Allan MP has lobbied the Government throughout the lockdown to ensure that this could be facilitated.
Gyms have been of crucial assistance to many people throughout the year. Crucially, whilst Gyms enable people to work on both their physical and mental wellbeing, they also provide a safe environment to exercise in the dark winter months.
Lucy Allan MP said:
"I am pleased to hear that the Prime Minister has announced that gyms will be able to reopen, regardless of which Tier an area will be in following the expiration of lockdown. Having visited several gyms in Telford before lockdown, I was impressed by just how far the staff had gone to facilitate COVID-secure guidelines so that people could exercise safely.
"It was a real shame that gyms were again required to close following a year of such pressure on their finances. Unfortunately due to the exponential nature of the virus, it was a decision that could not be avoided.
I am however very grateful that the Prime Minister and the Government has responded to my lobbying and that of other Members by recognising the benefits of reopening gyms for physical and mental wellbeing."
