The Government's Small Business Grant Scheme was announced by the Chancellor, The Rt. Hon. Rishi Sunak MP, to support small businesses that were in receipt of small business rates relief, rural rate relief and tapered relief.
The scheme provides a one-off grant of £10,000 to eligible businesses to help meet their ongoing business costs. The grant funding is provided to local authorities to administer. Eligible businesses were contacted automatically, and progress is now being made on the delivery of their grant. As of Tuesday, 7th April:
- Approximately 2,400 businesses are eligible for the Small Business Grant Scheme in Telford
- 1,207 have received their grant already
- £14.1 million has been distributed to small businesses
Lucy Allan MP said:
"I would like to thank the Chancellor for his massive support for local businesses. Without his intervention, hundreds of businesses in Telford would have been at risk of collapse, threatening jobs and livelihoods. Instead, we have now seen over 1,000 businesses in Telford receive a grant, totalling in excess of £14 million.
I would also like to thank the team at Telford & Wrekin Council who are working hard to deliver Government support to those that require it."
